5 AM alarm. On the road by 6 with John — he owns a running store here. Popular spot. First time running together in a few months. Both of us coming off injuries.

That's the thing about running with someone you actually know. There's no agenda. You just talk. What he's working on, what I'm working on, where we both want to be. Couple miles in and it doesn't really feel like a workout anymore. It feels like a conversation with miles attached.

I think about this more than I probably should — why I actually do this. I'm 33, I'm a dad, and when my buddies are going out I'm prob already winding down. Running is how I fit something meaningful into my social life without pretending I have unlimited time. Cause after the run, it's family and work. That's it.

However, there's a line. The goal is to be consistent. I'd rather be average most days and show up every time than go great once in a while and disappear. The moment running starts taking real time from Roman and the family, I've gotten too selfish with it.

Running is important. But it's not who I am. It's what I do.

Finished at 7:15. 7.59 miles, 8:49 pace. Hot out already. Cold plunge right after.

This is a dad who runs, signing off.
