The Journal
Race reports, training notes, and the in-between. Mostly what didn’t go right — I learn slow.

Legs Feed the Wolf
First actual workout since the calf injury, not just a recovery jog — threshold blocks mixed with faster surges on the treadmill, starting at 8:40pm.

Making the Case for the Treadmill
Got my son sorted first, then hit the gym treadmill around 11am for 2x10 minutes at 6:40 pace. Coffee, pre-workout, and a smoothie carried me there.

New Shoes, Old Excuse
Slept in with a sinus infection, couldn't let a running day slip by anyway. Broke in a pair of Li-Ning carbon racers a friend brought back from the Philippines under the lights.

Day Two. Same Heat.
Second morning in West Palm. Knew the heat was coming at mile three. Tried not to look at the watch. Got it done.

West Palm Beach
Drove down from Melbourne the night before. Work conference all week. Got out at 6am before it all started — humid, beautiful, and harder than it looked.

Running with John
5am up, 6am on the road with John. First run back together after both of us dealing with injuries. Easy miles, a lot of catching up, then straight into the cold plunge.

Average Every Day Beats Great Once in a While
5 AM out the door with my buddy John. First run back together in months. We both had some things going on. Talked about everything and nothing.

Sunday Steam
6.61 miles at 8:20 with Brian. Tropical Trail out of Satellite Beach, Running Zone water station at the turnaround, and a long conversation about AI and what's coming.

The Summer Tax
6.19 miles this morning, 10:33 pace, 71°F and 90% humidity. Same easy effort as April — just costs more now.
The Manifesto Isn't for Me (But I Get It)
Runner's World says your finish time doesn't define you. They're right. But you still need one — not for your self-worth, for your training plan.

Sunday with Brian
6.53 easy with Brian. Out the door at 6am, cool for Florida, just two dads catching up on life at conversation pace.

The Race-Day Shoe
Indy Monumental in November. Cool weather, flat course, certified fast. A 2026 meta-analysis finally pulled enough data together to think about the shoe honestly. The Alphafly call is still up in the air.

Easy day, treadmill
5.63 miles on the treadmill. Easy effort. Vomero 18s. Going to keep this one short.

It Starts the Night Before
Easy five Saturday morning. The run starts the night before — coffee ready, kit ready, ankle taped. The fight isn't at 6am, it's at 10pm the night before.

The Year and the Run
Easy five-miler the morning of Roman's first birthday. Came back from the run thinking about the year, and about how I'm only out there because somebody at home lets me be.

Forty Minutes
My first marathon was Spacecoast 2024. I finished in 4:20. A year later, on the same course, I ran 3:40.
